Thoughtful Gay Oddysseys

Heart, lungs, bladder,

kidneys, liver, air,

water, light,

tucked safely

inside a closed envelope,

individually marked.

What no one said in class,

"The envelope holds stories too."

The story of the first swim

and a safe kiss.

The story of the first vegetable

and a flunking grade.

The story of the first birthday

and a fist fight.

The story of the first adventure

and a survival of attempted homicide.

The story of the first therapist

and a panic attack.

The story of the first paycheck

and a closed business.

The story of first poem

and the recent spotlight.

The envelope bursts with song,

memory,

with future, love, and hate,

with loneliness and waiting.

All tucked away and sealed,

unseen

unless opened.
